WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, McKay Wealth Management reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice McKay Wealth Management identified unusual activity involving an employee’s email account. 1 As a result, McKay Wealth Management launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, McKay Wealth Management confirmed that sensitive personal information in the email account had been accessed by an unknown actor between June 28, 2024, and September 19, 2024.1 As a result, McKay Wealth Management began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On June 12, 2025, McKay Wealth Management began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted Maine residents. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, McKay Wealth Management is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
