WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Ocuco discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On May 30, 2025, Ocuco filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about Ocuco breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that Ocuco breach included the protected health information belonging to over 240,000 individuals. As a result of the data breach, Ocuco may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
