WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, McLean Mortgage reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on October 17, 2024, McLean Mortgage identified suspicious activity within its network. 1 As a result, McLean Mortgage launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, McLean Mortgage confirmed that an unauthorized third party gained access to its network and may have accessed or downloaded files. As a result, McLean Mortgage began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Government issued ID number (e.g. passport, state ID card)
- Financial account number
On June 11, 2025, McLean Mortgage began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted Maine residents. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, McLean Mortgage is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
