Today, USDP is one of the largest dermatology practices in the United States, serving more than 2 million patients each year with over 100 locations across eight states including Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia.3 Common conditions and treatments offered by USDP include skin cancer treatment, Botox and injectables, annual skin examinations, eczema and dermatitis, moles and warts, and acne.3 Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, USDP employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, USDP announced that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on June 19, 2024, USDP experienced a network disruption.1 As a result, USDP launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, USDP confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and transferred to an external destination by an unauthorized third party during the breach.1 As a result, USDP began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical record number
- Health insurance information
- Information related to the dermatology services received at USDP
As a result of the data breach, USDP posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on May 30, 2025, USDP began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
