WHAT HAPPENED?
On May 20, 2025, Kettering Health announced that it had experienced a cybersecurity incident. According to the breach notice posted on its website, on the morning of May 20, 2025, Kettering Health experienced a system-wide technology outage which limited its ability to access certain patient care systems across the organization.1 Later that same day, Kettering Health confirmed that the incident resulted from unauthorized access to its network and reported that patients had received scam calls from persons claiming to be Kettering Health team members requesting credit card payments for medical expenses.1 While it has not been definitively established that these scam calls are connected to the system-wide technology outage, out of an abundance of caution, Kettering Health will not be making calls to ask for or receive payment over the phone until further notice.1 As of May 21, 2025, Kettering Health’s systems have still not been restored and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Additionally, Kettering Health has not publicly disclosed the nature of the cybersecurity incident that impacted its systems.
