Lepant Law Office Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Lepant Law Office, PC, LLO (“Lepant Law”) regarding its recent data breach. The Lepant Law data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Lepant Law is a law firm based in Nebraska. Today, Lepant Law offers legal services in a variety of practice areas, including adoption, bankruptcy, business formation, estate planning, guardianship conservatorship, preservation of family plans, probate and trust administration, real estate, and taxation.2 Headquartered in Beatrice, Nebraska, Lepant Law has an additional office in Fairbury, Nebraska.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Lepant Law reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on March 5, 2025, Lepant Law noticed that it could not access its data.1 After contacting its IT vendor, Lepant Law was informed that an unauthorized bad actor gained access to a firm server and infected such server with ransomware that encrypted all of Lepant Law’s data via a remote desktop interface.1 As a result, Lepant Law launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Lepant Law confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Lepant Law began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Lepant Law. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or other government identification number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account

 

On May 7, 2025, Lepant Law began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, Lepant Law is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted.
