Founded in 1977, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute provides surgical and nonsurgical treatment for the entire spectrum of brain, spine, and peripheral nerve disorders.2 Examples of the conditions treated by Neurosurgical & Spine Institute include brain tumors, spine injuries, stroke, epilepsy, birth defects, concussions, neck and lower back pain, and pituitary tumors.2 Headquartered in Savannah, Georgia, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute recently discovered that it had experienced a data security incident.1 As a result, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized third party between June 1, 2024, and July 21, 2024. As a result, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On April 15, 2025, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute is planning to send breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Neurosurgical & Spine Institute will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
