Good Neighbors Federal Credit Union Data Breach Investigation

The Good Neighbors data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 18,000 individuals.

Good Neighbors is a credit union based in New York. Today, Good Neighbors offers a variety of financial services and products, including checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards, auto, personal, and home loans, money market accounts, CDs, money management services, investment services, online banking services, and more.3 Headquartered in Depew, New York, Good Neighbors has an additional location in Buffalo, New York, and employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Good Neighbors announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Good Neighbors recently discovered that it had experienced a network security incident.1 As a result, Good Neighbors launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on April 4, 2025, Good Neighbors confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on or around December 10, 2024. As a result, Good Neighbors began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information
  • Bank account numbers
  • Credit or debit card numbers
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

 

As a result of the data breach, Good Neighbors posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on May 1, 2025, Good Neighbors began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Good Neighbors is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
