WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, iHeart reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, iHeart recently discovered that it had experienced a network security indicent.1 As a result, iHeart launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, iHeart confirmed that sensitive personal information stored on systems at a number of its local stations may have been accessed and taken by an unauthorized third party between December 24 and December 27, 2024. As a result, iHeart began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On April 11, 2025, iHeart completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Passport or other governmental identification number
- Financial account information
- Payment card information
- Health information
- Health insurance information
On April 30, 2025, iHeart began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, iHeart is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
