USClaims is a pre-settlement financial firm based in Florida. Founded in 1996, USClaims offers financial services to personal injury victims of auto accidents, workplace and construction accidents, premises liability, and medical malpractice.4 A longtime member of the industry trade group the American Legal Finance Association (ALFA), USClaims supports injured plaintiffs and their attorneys by purchasing a portion of the anticipated recovery, providing the plaintiff with means to pay bills and make it through the litigation process.4 Headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, USClaims employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, USClaims reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about January 7, 2025, USClaims became aware of suspicious activity within its network environment.1 As a result, USClaims launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, USClaims confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and obtained by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, USClaims began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On March 25, 2025, USClaims completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Government issued ID number (e.g., passport, state ID card)
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On April 11, 2025, USClaims began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, USClaims is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
