Kelly Benefits Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, Inc., a Kelly Benefits company (“Kelly Benefits”), regarding its recent data breach. The Kelly Benefits data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 32,200 individuals.

Kelly Benefits is benefits administration company based in Maryland. Founded in 1976 as Francis X. Kelly Associates, Inc., Kelly Benefits officially became Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, Inc. in 1998.2 In 2007, Kelly Benefits established Kelly Integral Solutions LLC as an umbrella management company for its various facets, including its benefits administration and technology, payroll, and benefits consulting offerings.2 Today, Kelly Benefits serves employers and insurance brokers, helping them navigate the benefit process.3 Headquartered in Sparks, Maryland, Kelly Benefits employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Kelly Benefits reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Kelly Benefits recently learned of suspicious activity within its environment.1 As a result, Kelly Benefits launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Kelly Benefits confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and taken by an unauthorized third party between December 12 and December 17, 2024. As a result, Kelly Benefits began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On March 3, 2025, Kelly Benefits completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On April 9, 2025, Kelly Benefits began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Kelly Benefits is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
