Founded in 1989, Lyon Living develops and operates mixed-use developments, multi-family communities, hotels, resorts, and single-family homes in California, Colorado, Florida, Montana, and Nevada.2 Today, Lyon Living has expertise in acquisitions, asset management, construction, development, capital renovations, and property operations.3 Headquartered in Newport Beach, California, Lyon Living employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Lyon Living reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, Lyon Living recently became aware of suspicious activity on its IT network.1 As a result, Lyon Living launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Lyon Living confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and copied by an unauthorized third party between March 14 and March 15, 2024. As a result, Lyon Living began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Lyon Living. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number, California ID card number, tax identification number, passport number, military ID number, or other unique ID number issued on a government document
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Unique biometric data generated from measurements or technical analysis of human body characteristics, such as a fingerprint, retina, or iris image, used to authenticate a specific individual
- Genetic data
On March 28, 2025, Lyon Living began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Lyon Living is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
