Founded in 1971, Miedema grows and distributes a variety of vegetables such as radishes, parsnips, turnips, carrots, celery, onions, squash, beets, corn, eggplant, lettuce, and more.2 Today, Miedema ships more than one hundred different products to customers across the United States and Canada.3 Headquartered in Hudsonville, Michigan, Miedema has an additional location in Arizona, and employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Miedema reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on December 19, 2024, Miedema became aware of suspicious activity on its systems.1 As a result, Miedema launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Miedema confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised during the breach. As a result, Miedema began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On March 19, 2025, Miedema began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, Miedema is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
