WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Topy America announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on January 13, 2025, Topy America identified unusual activity in its network.1 As a result, Topy America launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Topy America confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems belonging to employees and their spouses/dependents may have been compromised between December 8, 2024, and January 11, 2025. As a result, Topy America began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Claims information that includes medical or health treatment information such as provider name and medical treatment information
- Information related to enrollment in a medical, dental, or vision plan such as member ID, gender, coverage type, and effective dates
As a result of the data breach, Topy America posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on March 14, 2025, Topy America began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Topy America is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
