Dove Healthcare Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT DOVE HEALTHCARE:

Dove Healthcare is a healthcare organization based in Wisconsin. Founded in 1997, Dove Healthcare consists of 11 skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, six assisted living residences, and three independent living complexes across Wisconsin.3 Today, Dove Healthcare’s core services include inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, post-hospital care, ventilator and tracheostomy care, skilled nursing, long-term and end-of-life care, as well as senior independent living, assisted living, and memory care.3 Headquartered in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Dove Healthcare employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Dove Healthcare announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected healthcare information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, Dove Healthcare recently learned that it had experienced a data security incident.1 As a result, Dove Healthcare launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Dove Healthcare confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised on or around July 6, 2024. As a result, Dove Healthcare began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., patient ID, radiological test(s), medical record number, medical history, mental/physical condition, medical treatment, diagnosis, healthcare professional)
  • Health insurance information
  • Health plan beneficiary numbers
  • Full face photographic images

 

As a result of the data breach, Dove Healthcare posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on March 18, 2025, Dove Healthcare began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Dove Healthcare is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
