Founded in 1964, Lane Automotive offers products for a wide range of racing and performance markets, including circle track, drag racing, open wheel, classic muscle and hot rods, modern muscle, pro-touring, and off-road.2 Today, Lane Automotive’s catalogs feature the newest and most popular products in each market, and provides a sampling of the more than 630 brands and 100,000 different part numbers it stocks in its Watervliet facility.2 Headquartered in Watervliet, Michigan, Lane Automotive employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Lane Automotive reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, Lane Automotive recently detected unauthorized access to its network.1 As a result, Lane Automotive launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on February 14, 2025, Lane Automotive confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained on or around March 25, 2023. As a result, Lane Automotive began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Lane Automotive. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state identification card number
- Account number, credit card number or debit card number, if circumstances exist wherein such a number could be used without additional identifying information, access codes or passwords
- Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes
On March 12, 2025, Lane Automotive provided initial notice to impacted individuals via email. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Lane Automotive is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
