Sunflower is a healthcare practice based in Kansas. Today, Sunflower provides a variety of healthcare services, including primary care, urgent care, obstetrics and gynecology, laboratory tests, x-rays, EKG’s, ultrasounds, vascular screens & bone density tests.3 Sunflower offers care at four locations across Kansas.4
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Sunflower announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on January 7, 2025, Sunflower became aware of suspicious activity within its computer network.1 As a result, Sunflower launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Sunflower confirmed that sensitive personal information in certain files in its network may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party on or about December 15, 2024. As a result, Sunflower began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the data breach, Sunflower posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on March 7, 2025, Sunflower sent breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Sunflower is mailing affected individuals and providing a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
