WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Pacific Rehabilitation announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on December 30, 2024, a Pacific Rehabilitation employee received a ransomware notice on their computer.1 As a result, Pacific Rehabilitation launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Pacific Rehabilitation confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been encrypted by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Pacific Rehabilitation began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Email address
- Driver’s license number
- Passport number
- Citizenship status
- Banking information for direct deposit
- Electronic signatures
- Dependent personal information
