Loyola is a private, Jesuit university located in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1852, Loyola offers 25 graduate programs, more than 45 undergraduate majors, 55 minors, and 60+ study abroad programs and exchanges in more than 30 countries.2 Today, Loyola employs over 330 individuals across its three schools: Loyola College (Arts and Sciences), the Sellinger School of Business and Management, and the School of Education, and enrolls over 5,000 students annually.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Loyola reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, Loyola recently discovered that it had experienced a data security breach.1 As a result, Loyola launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on January 30, 2025, Loyola confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between July 19 and July 25, 2024. As a result, Loyola began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
As a result of the data breach, Loyola began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, Loyola is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
