Founded in 1976, Power Test originally focused on improving the traditional water brake dynamometer.2 Today, Power Test designs, manufactures, and develops a variety of engine and chassis dynamometers, engine and vehicle controls, and the latest technology in data acquisition systems.2 Headquartered in Sussex, Wisconsin, Power Test serves the mining, oil & gas, power generation, marine, trucking, construction, rail, and military markets in more than 90 countries on six continents.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Power Test reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Power Test experienced a network outage that was the result of a cybersecurity attack.1 As a result, Power Test launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Power Test confirmed that sensitive personal information in certain files and folders may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party on or around April 29, 2024. As a result, Power Test began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Financial account
- Address
On June 10, 2024, Power Test began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Additionally, Power Test posted notice of the breach on their website on February 7, 2024. Based on the breach notices provided to the Maine residents, Power Test is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
