Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Via Credit Union (“ViaCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The ViaCU data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 60,000 individuals.

ViaCU is a credit union and financial institution based in Indiana. Founded in 1936 by a group of school teachers and administrators with 38 members, ViaCU had less than $100 in assets and was operated out of the volunteer Treasurer’s home until 1965.2 Today, ViaCU has over 37,000 members with nearly $573 million in assets, and offers a variety of financial products and services, including checking and savings accounts, debit and credit cards, auto, home, and business loans, and digital banking services.3 Headquartered in Marion, Indiana, ViaCU has four additional branch locations in Indiana and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ViaCU reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, ViaCU recently discovered suspicious activity within its computer network.1 As a result, ViaCU launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ViaCU confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between January 18 and January 20, 2025. As a result, ViaCU began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Visa credit card number
- A form of financial account number
On February 24, 2025, ViaCU began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, ViaCU is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
