Hartson-Kennedy Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Hartson-Kennedy, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Hartson-Kennedy data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to approximately 3,600 individuals.

ABOUT HARTSON-KENNEDY, INC.:

Hartson-Kennedy is a countertop manufacturer based in Indiana. Founded in 1948, Hartson-Kennedy is now one of the largest manufacturers of postformed laminate countertops for homes and businesses throughout the United States.3 Today, Hartson-Kennedy offers a variety of products, including laminate countertops, FENIX countertops, natural surface butcher blocks, cultured marble vanities, and sinks.4 Headquartered in Marion, Indiana, Hartson-Kennedy has production facilities in Indiana, Mississippi, and Georgia, and employs over 200 individuals.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Hartson-Kennedy reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on October 9, 2024, Hartson-Kennedy was alerted to a dark web posting by an attacker claiming to have accessed and removed data from its IT systems.1 As a result, Hartson-Kennedy launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Hartson-Kennedy confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems belonging to employees and their dependents may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party using a malicious advertisement starting on June 24, 2024. As a result, Hartson-Kennedy began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number and email address
  • Driver’s license or other ID number
  • Financial account information
  • Health insurance data, such as health plan enrollment and account information
  • Health data, such as diagnosis information and codes
  • Health billing and payment data, such as claim numbers, account numbers, billing codes, payment amounts, and balance information

On February 20, 2025, Hartson-Kennedy began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Hartson-Kennedy is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services. A link to the form breach notification letters that Hartson-Kennedy filed with the Attorney General of Maine is below.
