Lena Pope Home Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Lena Pope Home, Inc. (“Lena Pope”) regarding its recent data breach. The Lena Pope data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Lena Pope is a nonprofit behavioral health organization based in Texas. Founded in 1930, Lena Pope aims to equips children, families, caregivers, and community with a strong foundation through counseling, education, and behavior interventions.2 Serving 4,000 children and families each year, Lena Pope provides evidence-based, research- tested programs focusing on prevention and early intervention services that support child development and improve the behavioral and mental health of children and families.2 Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, Lena Pope employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Lena Pope announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on January 16, 2025, Lena Pope discovered an employee’s email account had been compromised.1 As a result, Lena Pope launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Lena Pope confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Lena Pope began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On February 13, 2025, Lena Pope completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information (e.g., telephone number, email address)
  • Admission date
  • Individual/Medicaid number
  • Health insurance policy number
  • Date and type of service received
  • Household size/income
  • Self-reported reason for counseling
  • Insurance copay/deducible information
  • Information on if there is an open child protective services (“CPS”) case
  • Progress towards treatment goals

 

On February 14, 2025, Lena Pope posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Lena Pope has begun sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Lena Pope is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted.
