WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, MITY reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around March 6, 2024, MITY learned that an unauthorized third party gained access to a limited number of its systems.1 As a result, MITY launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, MITY confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, MITY began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Social insurance number
As a result of the data breach, MITY began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to California residents, MITY is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 12 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
