The Partners Group Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT THE PARTNERS GROUP, LLC:

The Partners Group is an insurance brokerage firm based in Oregon. Founded in 1981, The Partners Group started as a small consulting team serving the employee benefits and individual insurance needs of Oregonians.2 Today, The Partners Group has over 200 employees in offices throughout the Pacific Northwest and has expanded to include insurance and financial services.2 The Partners Group is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, The Partners Group reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on May 11, 2024, The Partners Group became aware of suspicious activity in an email account.1 As a result, The Partners Group launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, The Partners Group confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, The Partners Group began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by The Partners Group. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Account number, credit card number or debit card number, if circumstances exist wherein such a number could be used without additional identifying information, access codes or passwords
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes

 

On January 30, 2025, The Partners Group began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to Maine residents, is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 12 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
