UFCW is a local labor union based in southern California. Representing over 13,000 workers, UFCW is a part of UFCW International’s 1.3 million families.2 UCFW International represents workers in a variety of industries, including grocers, packing and processing, retail, health care, cannabis, chemical, pharmacy, booksellers, and wine and spirits production.3 Members of UFCW get collective bargaining, support from representatives for grievances, support from its Insurance and Pension Department for Health and Welfare, and perks including discounts for a variety of tickets or services.4 UCFW has locations in San Diego and San Marcos, California.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, UFCW reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or about August 23, 2024, UFCW became aware of suspicious activity in its network. 1 As a result, UFCW launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, UFCW confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, UFCW began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Address
- Email address
- Date of birth
On or about January 28, 2025, UFCW began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, UFCW is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring.
