WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, E-Benefit announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, E-Benefit recently learned that a third party had gained access to its network environment.1 As a result, E-Benefit launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, E-Benefit confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party on or about July 11, 2024. As a result, E-Benefit began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or government ID number
- Passport number
- Individual taxpayer identification number
- Financial account number
- Medical information (e.g., medical diagnosis, medical condition or treatment information, physician information, medical date of service, patient account number, medical record number)
- Health insurance policy number
- Medicaid number
On January 13, 2025, E-Benefit posted a notice of the incident on its website. On the same day, E-benefit mailed breach notification letters to individuals whose information was impacted as a result of the breach. Based on the website breach notice, E-Benefit is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
