Medusind Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Medusind, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Medusind data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to approximately 360,000 individuals.

ABOUT MEDUSIND, INC.:

Medusind is a medical and dental billing and revenue cycle management company based in Florida. Founded in 2002, Medusind provides technology solutions and client-focused services to improve the efficiency and profitability of medical practices, hospitals, dental groups, GPOs and third-party administrators.2 Today, the solutions offered by Medusind include medical and dental RCM solutions, MedClarity practice management software, medical billing services, and FQHC RCM credentialing, enrollment, and other ancillary services.3 Headquartered in Miami, Florida, Medusind 11 additional locations across the United States and India and employs over 3,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Medusind reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on December 29, 2023, Medusind became aware of suspicious activity within its information technology network.1 As a result, Medusind launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Medusind confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party during the incident. As a result, Medusind began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Contact information (e.g., email address, phone number)
  • Government identification (e.g., taxpayer ID, driver’s license, passport number)
  • Payment information (such as debit/credit card numbers or bank account information)
  • Health information (e.g., medical history, medical record number, prescription information)
  • Health insurance and billing information (e.g., insurance policy numbers, claims /benefits information)

 

On January 7, 2025, Medusind began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Medusind is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
