OLA is an engineering solutions firm based in New York. Founded in 1974, OLA offers a variety of services and solutions in all aspects of building systems analysis, design, and commissioning, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, security, and IT systems.2 Today, OLA provides these services to clients in an array of industries such as commercial, clubs/resorts, government, healthcare, education, recreation, residential, and retail.3 Headquartered in Valhalla, New York, OLA has an additional location in New York and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, OLA reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on November 16, 2023, OLA became aware of suspicious activity on one of its servers.1 As a result, OLA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, in January 2024, OLA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, OLA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. In November 2024, OLA completed this review. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by OLA. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or other government identification number
- Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
On December 12, 2024, OLA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, OLA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
