American Trust Retirement is part of AmericanTCS, EdgeCo Holdings’ brand of trust, custody, and retirement operations.5
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, American Trust Retirement reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or about August 13, 2024, American Trust Retirement became aware of suspicious activity within its email environment.1 As a result, American Trust Retirement launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, American Trust Retirement confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between August 8 and August 13, 2024. As a result, American Trust Retirement began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On December 5, 2024, American Trust Retirement completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state identification number
- Financial account number
As a result of the data breach, American Trust Retirement began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, American Trust Retirement is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
