Specifically, Spectra develops, manufactures, and supplies and supports customers with advanced materials and software/hardware systems concerning payments, border crossing, excise revenue, government agency operations, product supply chain, and lottery/gaming systems.2 In December 2023 Spectra acquired Cartor Security Printers, which expanded its offerings to finished postage stamps, excise stamps, ID cards, and secure documents through their innovative conversion of security paper, polymer substrates, inks, and advanced optical materials.2 Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, Spectra has two other Rhode Island locations and one in British Columbia, Canada.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Spectra reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. Beyond this, the Spectra breach notice does not elaborate on the nature of the security incident that impacted its systems. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Medical records
On December 30, 2024, Spectra began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, Spectra is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months complimentary identity monitoring services.
