WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ChurchShield reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, ChurchShield recently discovered unauthorized access to its network. As a result, ChurchShield launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ChurchShield confirmed on December 1, 2024, that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised between August 26, 2023, and September 14, 2023. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Bank account information
- Date of birth
On December 27, 2024, ChurchShield began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Maine residents, ChurchShield is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 12 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
