Founded in 2009, AAP began when United Drugs of Phoenix, Arizona and Associated Pharmacies, Inc. of Scottsboro, Alabama joined.3 Today, AAP is a member-owned cooperative that offers programs and services to benefit its 2,000 independent and community pharmacy members.3 Headquartered in Scottsboro, Alabama, AAP employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, AAP reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, AAP discovered suspicious activity in its systems on October 23, 2024.1 As a result, AAP launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, AAP confirmed they experienced a cybersecurity incident and that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Health insurance information
On December 23, 2024, AAP began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, AAP is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
