Founded in 1986, Conceptions offers a variety of fertility testing and treatment services to individuals, including in vitro fertilization, ovulation induction therapy, intrauterine insemination, fertility medications, third party reproduction, egg freezing/fertility preservation, cryopreservation and storage, male fertility services, and more.2 Today, Conceptions is a part of Reproductive Medicine Associates’ network of fertility clinics, which includes over 25 locations across the United States.3 Headquartered in Littleton, Colorado, Conceptions has three additional locations in Colorado and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Conceptions discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On November 25, 2024, Conceptions filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. Though much information is still not known about the Conceptions breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Conceptions breach included the protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals. As a result of the data breach, Conceptions may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
