The Baker Center is a provider of services for children’s mental health and special education based in Massachusetts.3 Founded in 1917, The Baker Center offers a wide range of programs and services for children and families, including a specialized summer day camp for children with mild to moderate symptoms of ADHD, outpatient mental health assessment and treatment, a K-10 special education school providing support for students with behavioral, emotional, or learning challenges, a college prep program for students on the spectrum, and a statewide, after-hours emergency response hotline for children and families in crisis.4 Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, The Baker Center employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, The Baker Center reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on July 28, 2024, The Baker Center became aware of unusual activity within its local digital storage environment.1 As a result, The Baker Center launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, The Baker Center confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between July 26 and July 28, 2024. As a result, The Baker Center began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
On December 13, 2024, The Baker Center began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, The Baker Center is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
