Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Dietzgen Corporation, which does business as Sihl, Inc. (“Sihl”), regarding its recent data breach. The Sihl data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT DIETZGEN CORPORATION D/B/A SIHL, INC.:

Sihl is a print media, textile, and packaging company based in Florida. Founded in 1809, Sihl’s offerings cover four market segments: Signage & Photos, Labels & Tags, Packaging, and Surface Decoration.2 In December 2021, Sihl acquired Dietzgen Corporation, a provider of converting and distribution services for digital print media including papers, films, and textiles to the US market.3 Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, Sihl has six additional locations in the United States and Europe and employs over 400 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Sihl reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, Sihl recently became aware of a security event impacting its internal systems.1 As a result, Sihl launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Sihl confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and copied by an unauthorized third party between August 26 and August 27, 2024. As a result, Sihl began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On December 5, Sihl completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Bank account and routing number
  • Health insurance information

As a result of the data breach, Sihl began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, Sihl is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and complimentary identity monitoring services.
