Founded in 1984, Artivion specializes in the manufacturing, processing, and distribution of medical devices and implantable tissues used in cardiac and vascular surgical procedures focused on aortic repair.2 Accordingly, Artivion offers cardiac and vascular surgeons a suite of aortic-centric solutions such as cryopreserved cardiac and vascular allografts, surgical sealants, prosthetic heart valves, and aortic stents and stent-grafts.2 Today, Artivion manufacturing facilities located in Atlanta, Georgia, Austin, Texas, and Hechingen, Germany.2 Additionally, it has sales and distribution offices in various countries throughout Europe, Asia, and South America.2 Headquartered in Kennesaw, Georgia, Artivion employs over 1,200 individuals worldwide.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 21, 2024, Artivion discovered that it had experienced a data security incident. In response, Artivion launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident. During its investigation, Artivion discovered that the incident involved the acquisition and encryption of files in its systems.1 Additionally, Artivion’s systems were impacted by the breach and a timetable for their restoration remains unclear.1 On December 9, 2024, Artivion reported the incident in a Form 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. As of December 10, 2024, Artivion’s investigation is ongoing and further details have not been made publicly available by Artivion.
