Anna Jaques Hospital Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Anna Jaques reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or about December 25, 2023, Anna Jaques experienced a cybersecurity incident that impacted certain systems within its network environment.1 As a result, Anna Jaques launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on November 5, 2024, Anna Jaques confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the incident in December 2023. As a result, Anna Jaques began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account number
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

 

On January 24, 2024, Anna Jaques posted an initial notice on their website. On December 5, 2024, Anna Jaques began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals and posted a more complete website notice. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Anna Jaques is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
