Cardiology Associates of Mobile Data Breach Investigation

Cardiology Associates is a comprehensive cardiovascular care provider based in Alabama. Founded in 1985, Cardiology Associates provides both traditional and specialized heart and vascular care for children and adults.2 Today, Cardiology Associates treats a variety of conditions such as coronary artery disease, congenital heart defects, congestive heart failure, peripheral artery disease, heart rhythm disorders or arrhythmia’s, atrial fibrillation (Afib), structural heart disease and offers preventive cardiac care.2  Headquartered in Mobile, Alabama, Cardiology Associates has seven additional locations in Alabama and Mississippi and employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Cardiology Associates reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or about October 22, 2024, Cardiology Associates detected that it was a target of a data security incident.1 As a result, Cardiology Associates launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Cardiology Associates discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between October 18 and October 22, 2024. As a result, Cardiology Associates began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Passport number

 

On December 3, 2024, Cardiology Associates began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Cardiology Associates is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
