Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Universal Pegasus International LLC (“UPI”) regarding its recent data breach. The UPI data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 17,000 individuals.

UPI is an engineering and project management firm based in Texas. Formed in February 2008 when two Houston-based companies, Universal Ensco and Pegasus International, were acquired by KRG Capital Partners, UPI specializes in energy infrastructure for the oil and gas industry.3 Today, UPI provides clients with a broad range of engineering and project management services focused on the gathering, transmission, and processing of hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon-based products, both onshore and offshore.3 These services include construction management, inspection, survey and mapping, geographic information systems, mobile inspection platform, procurement, engineering and design, and FEED/feasibility.4 Headquartered in Houston, Texas, UPI employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, UPI reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on June 14, 2023, UPI became aware of a network security incident. As a result, UPI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, UPI confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between June 13 and June 14, 2023. As a result, UPI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On November 27, 2024, UPI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, UPI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
