Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating MI HoldCo, Inc., which does business as Instinct Pet Food (“Instinct”), regarding its recent data breach. The Instinct data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 1,900 individuals.

Instinct is a marketer and manufacturer of natural pet foods for dogs and cats based in Missouri.4 Founded in 2001, Instinct provides a variety of ways to add raw to a pet’s routine, including frozen raw meals, freeze-dried raw meals, raw toppers, kibble boosted with raw, and more.5 Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Instinct has additional manufacturing facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska, and employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Instinct reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on October 16, 2024, Instinct became aware of unauthorized activity within its computer network. As a result, Instinct launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Instinct confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to employees in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the incident. As a result, Instinct began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On November 8, 2024, Instinct completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account number
On November 19, 2024, Instinct began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, Instinct is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
