Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, Inc. (“STA”) regarding its recent data breach. The STA data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 37,000 individuals.

STA is a private, catholic college preparatory school located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Founded in 1936, STA offers a variety of courses across English, math, social studies, fine arts, science, theology, graphic arts, and theology in addition to multiple clubs and extracurricular activities. Competing as the Raiders, STA has won 130 state championships across its 19 varsity teams and employs over 120 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, STA announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around July 16, 2024, STA experienced unauthorized access to its computer network. As a result, STA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, STA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party during the incident. As a result, STA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Passport number
- Financial information (e.g., bank account number, credit or debit card number)
- Student number
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the data breach, STA posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on November 20, 2024, STA mailed breach notification letters to affected individuals. Based on the website breach notice, STA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
