Founded in 1999, KTBS specializes in corporate and municipal restructuring, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions.2 Additionally, KTBS’ practice areas include debtor representation, creditor and committee representation, bankruptcy litigation, commercial litigation, out of court representation, expert witness engagement and mediations.3 Today, KTBS offers its services to middle market businesses in a wide range of industries such as automotive, energy, entertainment, financial services, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, municipal and government, real estate, retail, and technology.4 Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, KTBS employs over 15 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, KTBS reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around December 12, 2023, KTBS experienced unauthorized access to its network. As a result, KTBS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on October 21, 2024, KTBS confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party between December 7 and December 12, 2023. Consequently, KTBS began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
As a result of the data breach, KTBS began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice mailed to California residents, KTBS is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring.
