Founded in 1989, PLA offers pallet management services, 3PL services, reverse logistics services, and freight brokerage & transportation management services, handling more than 115 million pallets per year for over 500 customers.3 Operating under the Pallet Logistics of America, Pallet Repair Services (“PRS”), Pal-Serv, Propak, Taylormade Pallets & Logistics, Valley Pallet, Willamette Valley Lumber, and Yancey Pallet brands, PLA operates over 75 facilities across the US, providing a comprehensive suite of supply chain management solutions.3 Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, PLA employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, PLA reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on September 6, 2024, PLA became aware of suspicious activity within its digital environment. As a result, PLA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, PLA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its legacy systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party between July 25 and September 18, 2024. As a result, PLA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
On November 12, 2024, PLA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice mailed to Maine residents, PLA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring.
