Liberty Hospital Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Liberty Hospital announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on December 19, 2023, Liberty Hospital detected suspicious activity within its network.1 As a result, Liberty Hospital launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Liberty Hospital confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party between December 18 and December 19, 2023. As a result, Liberty Hospital began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 23, 2024, Liberty Hospital completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Demographic information
  • Driver’s license or government issued identification number
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card information
  • Username with password
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

 

On October 9, 2024, Liberty Hospital posted an initial notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on October 16, 2024, Liberty Hospital began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Liberty Hospital is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted.
