WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Mystic Valley Elder Services reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on April 5, 2024, Mystic Valley Elder Services discovered that an unauthorized third party had gained access to its systems. As a result, Mystic Valley Elder Services launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Mystic Valley Elder Services confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party. As a result, Mystic Valley Elder Services began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Passport number
  • Taxpayer identification number
  • Financial information (e.g., financial account numbers, payment card numbers)
  • Online credentials
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

 

On October 22, 2024, Mystic Valley Elder Services began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice mailed to Maine residents, Mystic Valley Elder Services is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
