WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Boart Longyear reported to the Attorney General of Montana that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on August 31, 2024, Boart Longyear became aware of suspicious activity within its network. As a result, Boart Longyear launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Boart Longyear confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third-party between June 29, 2024, and August 31, 2024. As a result, Boart Longyear began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or other government identification card number
- National identification number
- Passport number
- Financial account information
- Medical information
As a result of the data breach, Boart Longyear began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice mailed to Montana residents, Boart Longyear is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring.
