WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Capital Asset Management Group reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, Capital Asset Management Group recently discovered unauthorized access to an employee’s email account. As a result, Capital Asset Management Group launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Capital Asset Management Group discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party using the employee’s email account between January 19, 2024, and February 9, 2024. As a result, Capital Asset Management Group began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Financial account and/or payment card number
- Driver’s license number
On October 23, 2024, Capital Asset Management Group began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Capital Asset Management Group is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
