Upchurch Companies Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Upchurch Holdings, LLC (“Upchurch”) regarding its recent data breach. The Upchurch data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 1,700 individuals.

ABOUT UPCHURCH COMPANIES:

Upchurch is a family of companies consisting of Upchurch Plumbing, Upchurch Services, Upchurch Industrial, and Upchurch Mechanical. Today, Upchurch is a complete contracting business including an automated fabrication sheet metal shop located in Greenwood, Mississippi.2  With its different divisions, Upchurch can provide a client with a full-service company that can design and install the Mechanical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical and leave them with a Service Agreement afterward.2 Headquartered in Greenwood, Mississippi, Upchurch has four additional locations and employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Upchurch reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on April 17, 2024, Upchurch discovered that it was the target of a security incident.1 As a result, Upchurch launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Upchurch confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third-party using employee email accounts between July 14, 2023, and April 21, 2024. As a result, Upchurch began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected.  While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Government issued identification number
  • Financial account information
  • Credit or debit card information
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Username or email address and password
  • Digital signature

 

On October 18, 2024, Upchurch began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Upchurch is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
