WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Tower Clock Eye Center announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on July 9, 2024, Tower Clock Eye Center determined unauthorized access to a limited number of employee email accounts.1 As a result, Tower Clock Eye Center launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on August 14, 2024, Tower Clock Eye Center confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third-party during the incident. As a result, Tower Clock Eye Center began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account number
  • Payment card number
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, patient ID or account number, medical diagnosis and treatment information, medical treatment location, doctor name, medical treatment date, medical lab or test result)
  • Medicare or Medicaid number
  • Health insurance information

 

As a result of the data breach, Tower Clock Eye Center posted notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Tower Clock Eye Center plans to mail data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
